A tiny, armour plated marine worm hand drawn in pen and ink.
This little chap is amazing. Its scales glow under ultra-violet light. It's a relatively recent discovery and one of a family of four types of millimetre-long marine worms, each displaying different colours reminding the scientists of Elvis's sequined jumpsuits.
Marine worms are 60 million year old creatures that still survive to this day. There are 28,000 known species with new ones still being discovered, some scientists estimate a possible 100,000 species exist. They are little miracles capable of surviving many different environments including some some varieties that live on volcano edges and can survive 105°C.

Marine worms are extraordinary! Many are beautiful, yet even the ugly ones can do amazing things, like glow different colours under UV light.
This was a challenging piece. Not only did I have to ensure the texture was created right, I also needed to ensure some elements of light/reflection were allowed for or incorporated.
